How to Play A Game of Thrones The BoardGame

Game of Thrones Board Game

Each turn has three phases to it, the planning phase, the action phase and the card phase, players start the planning stage by laying out concealed move tokens (attack, defend, support, raid) for each of their units (footmen, knights, ships, siege towers), once all the tokens are laid out the moves are revealed.  The planning stage is the most strategic part of the turn where you must work out if you can trust your neighbouring players not to march on you or support you in an upcoming battle with the enemy.

The second phase is the action element, where plays take turns to carry out (or cancel) the moves that they planned previously.  If players march into battle the winner is determined by a combination of:

1) The size of their army

2) The number of additional points from their move/ defence tokens

3) Any additional units in support

4) Each player can lay a house card per fight, featuring one of the characters from A Game of Thrones each with their unique special attributes and additional combat points.

The third and final card stage sees three cards unveiled at the end of each turn depicting certain events and changes in power that will occur for the next round, this can also include the wildling’s attacking from beyond the wall in which all participating houses must must join forces to protect the seven kingdoms.

A Game of Thrones the Board Game is a great strategy game with a relatively easy learning curve.
